After a week on holiday, in a hotel with scrumptious food, I nervously approach Karine's house for my weigh-in. What is the damage going to be? And not only the damage on the scale, but I will have to mention it to you in my blog ;) ... no pressure!
Starting weight: 67.4kg
Today's weight: 63.6 (last week 63.6) - I stayed the same! Phew - what a relief.
Total weight-loss 3.8kg
BMI: 23.9
(last week 23.9)
Body Fat (kg): 21.0kg
(last week 21.3kg)
Centimetres lost: +1.5cm
Goal: 60kg
I am no doctor, but scientists have discovered that your hypothalamus, a small gland on top of the brain stem (the part of the brain that connects to the top of the spinal cord), seems to control your appetite. The satisfying feeling of fullness after eating is called satiety, the signal that says, "okay, hold the hotdogs, I’ve had plenty, and I need to step back from the table", - I don't think I have that ... no, seriously lol.
Losing weight is the best thing for my EDS. Having to carry less weight around makes it easier on my joints so I have less joint pain. Over the last 15 years, I became aware that my joints feel so much better when I eat on my eating plan as I consume a lot of salmon and mackerel. And voilà, there you have it... Fish oil is an especially rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids and this can also increase blood-flow throughout the body during exercise, which can help reduce joint pain and swelling. One of Omega-3's benefits is its anti-inflammatory properties, which play a role in its effectiveness as an aid for joint pain - I rest my case, BOOM!
My weight-loss and exercise pace is steady and I am happy with that. Dropping centimetres, I feel a drastic change in my clothes. I have tons of energy and I sleep so much better. No longer do I have headaches from too much sweet stuff - I am a sucker for sweet things. I won't lie, every now and then an evil thought of devouring a tiny Lindt ball or a packet of Oreos comes over me, but my October '19 goal is bigger than that Lindt ball or packet of Oreos.
Swimming 2-3 evenings a week is going well. I see a great improvement. I can now swim the same number of lengths that took 30 minutes in 18.
Bootcamp on Monday was a killer (thanks Dan!). I found it particularly hard after a week on holiday, but I survived. In an obscure way, I am starting to like the torture.
