⚾️ Curveballs

The stumbles and falls we suffer in life can be very much like physical ones. Have you ever played cricket or baseball? You are the batsman about to be bowled at (waiting for the pitcher, in baseball). You have no idea what the bowler is going to throw at you. Will it be a bouncer, slow ball, yorker, off-spinner….the point is; you have no idea what’s coming.

Life happens. We all get curveballs coming our way. They are unexpected and knock us down for a second, but others came not only unexpectedly but knock us off our feet. My curveball knocked me out initially but is more the boomerang type and reoccurring. I’m talking about my health - my life with Ehlers Danlos Syndrom (hEDS). In life we always have 2 choices when we are knocked down:

1. Get back up on your feet or

2. Have a victim mentality.

Lamenting the cards we were dealt with won’t get us back on our feet. While it’s important to learn from these situations, it’s even more important to take these lessons to heart and not allow a curve ball to root us down.

We all are different. Some people are better equipped—physically, emotionally and spiritually—to bounce back. Others need time, which can take days, months, or even years. Don’t beat yourself up if it’s taking a long time to get up. We all have our own circumstances to deal with. The most important thing isn’t that you bounce right back; it’s that you want to get back up. You are stronger than you think you are.
