Detour

11 June 2026.

Life deals its cards, and as someone who likes a plan (with a slight touch of OCD), I don’t just have a Plan A; I have Plans B and C neatly filed away and ready to go. That being said, I still find it incredibly difficult when life throws a curveball at lightning speed. But EDS has taught me that it’s not about avoiding the curveballs; it’s about how accurate I can hit them back. ⚾️

A voice says… “We’re just going to give you a little morphine.”.. 💉

Suddenly, the waiting room no longer matters, the hospital gown becomes perfectly acceptable attire, and you’re convinced you could probably assist with your own diagnosis. Never mind the fact that you’ve already worked out how you’re still going to catch your flight in two days’ time while in the worst pain. ✈️

Living with EDS has taught me to find humour in the chaos, appreciate the good days, and celebrate the little victories, like making it home to my own bed, even if it’s after 2:30 am, and being able to go to the bathroom without dragging an IV stand behind me as my emotional support companion.

And if life insists on curveballs, I’ll take mine with a side of humour, a dash of morphine, and a strong cup of coffee. ☕️💙
